Thanks to all of you who visited in connection with Jan's blog....I am glad to begin to know all of you. Today I was feeling inspired when I was sitting in my kitchen with a cup of coffee and the cinnamon. It smelled like fall, and even though it is a gloomy warm day outside, it seemed toasty and warm inside. So the writing exercise today is....When I smell cinnamon baking it reminds me of____________.
When I smell cinnamon it reminds me of apple cider and fall apples. When I smell cinnamon baking it reminds me of home, and of my Mom who always prepares something special when I come home. I see her in her log cabin, inside the blue and white kitchen with her dog "Sweetie" laying at her feet. When the door opens and she hugs me the smell of cinnamon wafts through the house as I arrive. It is always a reminder of her love and feeling loved. I have been fortunate to have her here right now while I am healing and recovering...but today I am doing the baking!

  1. Kathy, I loved your "Life Gets in the Way" post as well as your cinnamon one. Thank you for being a writing facilitator even as you heal. It's been a long day so at the moment I don't have a cinnamon memory to share, but I do wish I had some cinnamon rolls to eat right now!

  2. When I smell cinnamon baking I think of Thanksgiving and the hustle and bustle that makes me feel happy inside. Of course that's because the hustle and bustle comes from my family being together!

  3. When I smell cinnamon baking it reminds me of living and studying in Israel; the dry heat, the palpable tension and the hurly-burly of the markets in Jerusalem.

  4. I love it that you're giving us writing exercises. Please add on a followers button to your blog!

When I smell cinnamon baking it reminds me of my dad's rice pudding. He's been gone since 1971, and he was a natural in the kitchen. I boil cinnamon on the stove, put it in an open crockpot to steam away all day, scenting our home. Cinnamon and I go w-a-y back, and it's a big part of my life. Also, smelling cinnamon makes men amorous. So they say...

  5. I have a question for you...do you think you could still post writing contests and call for submissions here like you do at our regular writing group?

Also, can we use this site as a roundtable type discussion...same as writer's group? I think that would be awesome!
